FAQs
Q: Are there annual dues to maintain the airport?
A: Absolutely not! Having our own runway has been our dream for a long time. Now that we have it, we don’t feel it necessary to burden people with dues to take care of the facility we are going to maintain anyway.
Q: Because the runway is privately owned, what guarantee is there that the airport will remain in existence and be maintained?
A: As it is spelled out in the restrictive covenants, the airport’s existence cannot be terminated without a unanimous vote by all owners of property at Crispy Cedars Estates to do so. There is also a paragraph that requires us to maintain the runway and taxiway so that it is kept useable and safe. The covenants are there to protect everyone.
Q: What about utilities?
A: Electric – Wisconsin Public Service comes off of there existing power lines, which border all lots, 125’ at no charge.
Septic – The vast majority of surrounding systems are mound, so it’s a safe bet that will be the requirement for these properties.
Well – Door County is very unpredictable. Wells in the area range from 60’ to 1000’ so unfortunately there is no way to accurately estimate this.
Q: Who is the Crispy Cedars Review Board?
A: It is the airport owners, Kevin & Tracy Slezewski. We wanted to have some ability to ensure that the building requirements in the covenants are met.
Q: Will the runway be plowed in winter?
A: Although we would like to be able to do this, we have currently decided against it. Exposing the turf would make it susceptible to winter damage or kill. The open area, and prevailing winds, keep it quite clear anyway, and it would be easy to fly on skis during the snowy months.
Q: Why is there no homeowner’s association?
A: Honestly, it has been a lifelong dream to have our own airstrip. Now that it’s reality, we just can’t part with it. It may make some prospective buyers a bit uncomfortable, but the fact is that the covenants are written in such a manner that there is legally no less risk than if the airstrip was owned by a homeowner’s association.
